BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- The Sabres put together a furious 3rd period rally in Ottawa but it wasn’t enough to avoid a third loss in a row as they fell to the Senators 4-2.

Ottawa’s Ryan Dzingel started the scoring in the first period with a power play goal that made it 1-0.

The Senators followed that up with a pair of goals in the 2nd period by Dylan DeMelo and Colin White to give the home team a 3-0 advantage.

The Sabres would finally get on the board in the 3rd period. Jason Pominville, playing in his 1000th career game, netted his 6th goal of the season.

Buffalo would make it a one goal game when Rasmus Ristolainen’s shot from the point was tipped in by Jeff Skinner.

The Sabres had several chances to tie the game but failed to capitalize and with :20 to play Ottawa’s Bobby Ryan sent home an empty net goal.

The Sabres return home to play the Senators on Saturday.
