It was a week full of hoops, happiness and high intensity as the MacDonald Basketball camp wrapped up at Daemen College.
Campers between the ages of five and fourteen participated in the week long camp. An emphasis was put on shooting and basketball skills, while also stressing the importance of fun and fundamentals.
Current and former players highlighted the coaching staff, who worked with the kids in their specific age groups throughout the week.
The coaching staff focused on making sure the kids were learning and improving their skills, while also having a great time and making new friends.
“My main thing is just for them to have fun,” said rising Senior Quinn Lee Yaw. “Everybody has to smile when they play, everyone has to play defense, everyone has to try their hardest.”
For Head Coach Mike MacDonald, he makes sure to emphasize the skills needed in basketball, while also working with the campers on skills off the court.
“It’s really important the young kids are learning about basketball, but also, learning life skills that are important too,” said MacDonald. “Teamwork, listening to coaches, being on time and following a schedule. Hopefully those are things that will carry over when they get back to school in September.”
The second round of the summer camp is August 7-11.
