BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Section VI crowned Division I and II wrestling champions in 13 weight classes over the weekend at tournaments hosted by North Tonawanda and Lake Shore. The championship event also served as a qualifier for the NYSPHSAA Championships, with the finalists at each weight earning a place in the state meet that will be held Feb. 24-25 in Albany.
At the previous weekend’s Section VI Class Championships, blue patches were claimed by: Williamsville North (AA), Niagara Wheatfield (A), Falconer (B), Chautauqua Lake (C/D).
St. Joe’s wrestlers Austin Zimmerman (110 pounds) and Nikolas Massaro (126) won titles at the Catholic High Schools Athletic Association Wrestling Championships in Huntington and gained entry to the NYSPHSAA/Federation tournament.
