Sabres blow past Pens 10-2 in Prospects Challenge Finale

The Penguins made it interesting, pulling within 4-2 early in the third period before the Sabres exploded for six straight goals in a 10-2 victory on Monday.

Alex Nylander, who was the 8th overall selection in 2016, scored twice and added two assists in the victory in the final of the 2018 Prospects Challenge.

“Of course, I feel great,” Nylander said after the game.  “Last year it was unfortunate I was injured, and now I’m just trying to take every moment since I missed last year to do the best that I can.”

Rasmus Asplund, who will likely contend for a roster spot when camp opens on Friday, tallied a goal and added three assists in the victory.

Casey Mittelstadt had three assists in the finale, his only points in the three day tournament.

“Obviously there were times where I might have been forcing it a bit too much this weekend,” he admitted.  “But, it’s early, you get back into the game flow and once things start clicking they all click. We got a few in the third and it’s a good way to go out.”

The No. 1 overall pick in this past year’s draft, Rasmus Dahlin did not play.
