Being a scholar athlete runs in the Crombie family.
Nathan Crombie, who is a senior at Maryvale is February’s Male Scholar Athlete. His brother Andrew took home the News 4 honors in 2016.
“Drew has always been a top role model for me,” Nathan Said. “He excels at everything he does. I just try to be like him.”
“It’s cool to see my brother doing it,” added Andrew. “I remember my average, and his average is higher than mine. He’s deserving.”
Nathan, is enjoying his senior year. He was a standout on the gridiron for Maryvale and is also stellar basketball player for the Flyers. While busy studying the X’s and O’s, he’s also balanced a heavy academic with AP classes and boasts a 4.0 Grade Point Average.
“We have a history of having very intelligent players and Nate is one of those players,” said head coach Mark Kensy. “He joins a long line of players that have great scholastic aptitude and being a very good basketball player.”
The senior volunteers with National Honor Society and helps his brother Andrew, who is the modified basketball coach at Maryvale. Nathan says he like to be there for people do anything he can to help — a mentality the point guard shares on the court.
“I like to pass the ball and get people shots,” he said. I like being a team player.”
“I’ve been here 34 years. I have 34 classes of seniors. A lot of them you wish could stick around,but time to move on. He’s going to be a success in life, there’s no doubt about that.”
