BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - In a Saturday night sold-out rivalry matchup, the University at Buffalo men's basketball team bested Canisius 87-72.
C.J. Massinburg opened up the scoring with a three pointer, and the two teams would trade buckets for the first five minutes. The Griffs would then go on a 12-3 run, sinking four straight three pointers. The Bulls would then use an 11-0 run of their own to take the 24-23 lead. UB would head into the half with the 41-35 lead.
Canisius would pull within four to open the second half, but UB would increase their lead, going up 60-46 halfway through the second half. The Griffs would get as close as 11, but weren't able to get over the hump as the Bulls would finish the night with the 87-72 win.
Massinburg led all scorers with 22 points on the night. Nick Perkins came off the bench with 18 points. Jeremy Harris finished with 17.
Takal Molson led Canisus with 15 points and six rebounds. Malik Johnson and Isaiah Reese both had 13 points a piece for the Griffs.
The Bulls move to 12-1 on the season for the first time since 1962-1963. UB travels to Eastern Michigan Friday, January 4th to open up MAC play. The Griffs head to Marist Thursday the 3rd for their conference opener.
