UB Women’s Hoops Improves to 2-0, Defeats Niagara 88-61

The University at Buffalo women’s basketball team improved to 2-0 for the fourth straight year with an 88-61 win over Big 4 rival Niagara University on Wednesday. The Bulls also unveiled their 2017-2018 Sweet 16 Banner in Alumni Arena.

Recent Naismith Trophy Award nominee senior guard Cierra Dillard led all scorers on the night with 25 points for the Bulls. Dillard also added six rebounds, four steals and three assists while going 9-for-17 from the floor and 3-for-6 from behind the arc. Senior Courtney Wilkins chipped in 13 points and a career-high seven rebounds for the Bulls.

It was a tight game after the first quarter, with the Bulls holding the 20-18 lead over the Purple Eagles. Niagara would pull close in the second once again to make it a 30-28 game, but the Bulls hit a clutch three late and would go into the halftime break up 37-31.

UB would take over in the third quarter to pull away with a 22 point lead. The Bulls head west for a showdown with #3 ranked Oregon Sunday.
