Today is a special national holiday… it’s National Homemade Cookies Day!
Often times at News 4, our newsroom is packed with sweet treats.
I’ve always been very reluctant to share the recipe in fear that it won’t be special anymore… but I’ve always said “spread the wealth of knowledge” and I’m going public with a recipe I call “Mama’s Homemade Cookies”!
Let me start by saying, I am not a professional baker.
This chocolate chip cookie recipe is one that’s been in our family for years.
I enjoy making it because, no lie — I love cookie dough!
Yes, I do know, it’s not healthy to eat raw cookie dough, but I suppose the saying goes, you only live once.
It’s a pretty simple recipe that doesn’t require too many ingredients.
You’re going to need:
— 2 sticks shortening
— 2 cups brown sugar
— 1 cup of white sugar
— 2 teaspoons of vanilla
— 4 eggs
— 4 cups of flour
— 2 teaspoons baking soda
— 2 teaspoons salt
— chocolate chips
Cream shortening, sugars and vanilla.
Add eggs and beat well.
In a separate bowl, combine flour, soda and salt and then add to creamed mixture.
Add chocolate chips and fold over.
(I made large cookies and bake at 375 for 9 1/2 minutes)
The recipe makes about 30 to 40 large cookies.
